{"id":835,"date":"2012-09-13T22:45:51","date_gmt":"2012-09-13T22:45:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mycours.es\/gamedesign2012\/?p=835"},"modified":"2012-09-13T22:45:51","modified_gmt":"2012-09-13T22:45:51","slug":"readings-eliza-effect-waiting-for-godot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/mycours.es\/gamedesign2012\/2012\/09\/13\/readings-eliza-effect-waiting-for-godot\/","title":{"rendered":"Readings &#8211; Eliza Effect, Waiting for Godot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Eliza Effect<\/p>\n<p>This program reminded me of Siri on the iPhone. \u00a0The only\u00a0difference\u00a0really is that Siri has a hole search engine behind her that she can\u00a0access\u00a0and provide a possible answer to a question. \u00a0I caught on right away to the programs style of rephrasing questions and I was surprised that it could fool individuals for a significant amount of time. \u00a0I was also surprised that the creator of Eliza was not as pleased that he had fooled people into thinking it was an actual\u00a0artificial\u00a0intelligence. \u00a0He seemed to think that human capacity for interaction would always exceed\u00a0computers, which I would agree with. \u00a0But interestingly humans are able to create technology that can &#8220;think&#8221; and computer greater than the human mind. \u00a0Could humanity and computational\u00a0ability\u00a0be combined to create a supper force that was\u00a0capable\u00a0of reason and\u00a0theorizing\u00a0greater than any individual human or computer.<\/p>\n<p>Waiting for Godot<\/p>\n<p>I was nto so impressed by the plot but there were a few moments in the dialoge that got me thinking. \u00a0To start the two characters\u00a0epitomize\u00a0my view of theater ignorance. \u00a0I feel there is a\u00a0tendency\u00a0to have two characters reacting to different situations and avoiding natural human interaction in order to create a more unusual situation. \u00a0Estragon needed help with his shoe, Vladimir would not focus on his\u00a0friend. \u00a0Instead he discussed the bible and other\u00a0philosophical\u00a0nonsense. \u00a0This would not happen in real life but makes for an interesting interaction. \u00a0Also the rest of the play could have been condensed into about 10 lines of dialoge if it were\u00a0written\u00a0for modern times. \u00a0I was not a fan on this play but I attempted to understand the situation and these characters, to no avail. \u00a0The one line I liked in the whole thing was Pozzo&#8217;s talking about how there is only a set amount of tears and laughter in the world and that our population had increased. \u00a0Does this mean there are more tears and laughter in the world or more people without any serious emotional reactions to life. \u00a0I\u00a0would\u00a0suspect the latter. \u00a0Can someone hog\u00a0either\u00a0of these emotions?
