It can be analog or digital, and it can involve custom software, but it has to take advantage of unique properties of a platform you didn\u2019t make.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Due date:<\/strong> Friday, September 11<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deliverable: <\/strong>it depends on the format.<br \/>\nIf it&#8217;s playable in class under 30 minutes, the deliverable can be the game rules and the components themselves.<br \/>\nIf it&#8217;s unpractical to play in class, produce some documentation. Two students will briefly present their findings.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>What are the unique advantages and characteristics of PBM RPGs?<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Alternate Reality Games (ARGs)<\/h2>\n<p>An ARG is an interactive networked narrative that uses the real world as a platform and employs transmedia storytelling to deliver a story that may be altered by players&#8217; ideas or actions. A kind of community emerged from that shared painful experience which in turn generated <a href=\"https:\/\/knowyourmeme.com\/memes\/events\/twitch-plays-pokemon\">memes, urban legends, lore<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-80\" src=\"http:\/\/mycours.es\/gamedesign2020\/files\/2020\/08\/twitch.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"639\" height=\"546\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While subsequent &#8220;Twitch Plays&#8221; experiments were not as successful, Twitch as a game platform is still somewhat underexplored.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/439416461\" width=\"640\" height=\"299\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/439416461\">Twitch Plays Bees<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/paolopedercini\">paolo pedercini<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\">Vimeo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I prepared two templates that allow you to control your own computer from Twitch&#8217;s chat.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/molleindustria\/TwitchPlaysEverything\">TwitchPlaysEverything (github source)<\/a> is a generalized template that turns chat commands into system inputs (mouse and keyboard).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/molleindustria\/TwitchToMIDI\">TwitchToMIDI (github source)<\/a> lets Twitch users control a MIDI channel on your computer.
