Assignment 3 Proposal: Mouse in the House

RAMBLING NONSENSE: SKIP IF YOU DON’T CARE WHAT I WAS DOING AT FOUR THIS MORNING

At first my idea was going to be something totally different where the scene is an older dude chilling out at a restaurant and he has a glass of water and among other things in the  scene you can click on to make them animate you can also click on different parts of the guy’s arm to move his muscles and try to make him take a drink of water successfully. As I was working on modeling the dude I got IMMENSELY distracted by a mouse scurrying around my bedroom (which is also the dining room) and this prompted a last minute complete change of idea as well as several unsuccesful attempts to capture the mouse which I have now named Skrillex simply because he is not a Deadmau5.

END OF NONSENSE

My idea is a scene of a living room in an apartment. The living room itself is generic, though I might base the layout off of my own apartment. Scurrying around the floor is a mouse, the rough model of which is pictured. This mouse scurries around the floor but will flee and hide under furniture if the cursor moves around over the floor area on screen.

Also in the room is an assortment of objects that can be picked up and used on other objects or simply moved around. Some objects can be combined, others will activate animations, and some will also affect the state of the room. It will be possible to capture the mouse but this wouldn’t be specified as goal. The mouse can also be removed through other various means, possibly including letting a cat into the apartment.

  1. I like the idea. Thought you might like to check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZ78niBJWx8

  2. It would be cool if you discovered a bunch of murder weapons and clues leading up to the shocking fact that the mouse killed your father.

  3. I think the first idea has some great entertainment value, in being able to ‘end’ the game whenever by simply drinking, but seeing just how much you can get out of it if you want.

Same with the mouse game, but i imagine it will be much harder to capture the mouse, and this will provide some challenge/motivation. I like the aspect of building immense/complicated traps. Put some thought and creativity into it, Clyde-o!

  4. I like this idea. The most difficult thing, I think, would be to figure out what objects to put into the room and how to combine them to create interesting combinations. Is the game going to be in 3d? If you use the simplified 3d style of your mouse for the entire house, consider making everything (especially the objects) bright colors so that they’ll stand out from one another.

  5. I think both are good ideas, the first one being more comical than the first. However the mouse one seems more like a straight forward point and click and you could also have some fun results with that. I do like the first idea a lot, sometimes ideas you make at weird hours in the morning can actually be good, so I would not necessarily pass it off as useless rambling. You also thought it worthwhile enough to include it in the post too.

  6. I think that having the mouse scurry around the room and avoiding your mouse will cause the user to want to catch it so maybe you should think more of making this the goal. I think that having the user combine objects to make a trap that will work could be really entertaining/challenging.
