Supercat – Clyde Shaffer (STILL NOT DONE D:)

UPDATE: I added doors that you can punch to open.

I fixed some really really awful gamebreaking bugs in the platforming physics.

I was about to post the new build but then dropbox chewed up the online copy of the project and now I can’t post it until I’m back at my apartment.

Heres a screenshot of a door instead

I have all (currently needed) features implemented, but so far only have a crappy little testing level.

What I have so far is technically playable, so you can at least download it and see. (zip file containing both OSX and Windows builds)

Controls are WASD movement, spacebar jump, shift runs, mouse moves camera. Other controls mentioned in game text as needed.

shift is to run

shift is to run

SHIFT IS TO RUN 😛

Also this is a reincarnation of a project I tried to do in high school but ended in disaster because I hadn’t learned to manage large projects yet and it gradually got buggy as hell. Hopefully I can do it better this time with all new code and assets.

Video of old project for reference.

  1. Yes, Yes, Yes. I love the controls, I love the idea. It is (so far) implemented smoothly and running around makes me feel like I am 5 again, having a good time with my little brother playing videogames. This game is going to be awesome when it is done. I cannot wait to see what is in store for this character!

  2. For where it’s at, I think this is FANTASTIC. You get so much props for using Unity, because the graphics and the gameplay are phenomenal. The cat moves a little slow though, regardless of whether it’s in the armor or not, which I found a little annoying. The E + Space command also didn’t work for me.

    1. An easier way to exit the suit is on the to-do list. I wanted to make sure it was hard to accidentally issue that command at a bad time. Currently E and Space have to be pressed down at the exact same time.

      1. Ah, that makes a lot more sense. I also JUST figured out what Shift does. Wow.

  3. At first I didn’t know that shift would make you run, which made the platforms a bit difficult. When you run, the controls are very fun and smooth, and the platforming elements are handled well. Do you plan for him to fight?

    1. I do indeed plan for there to be fight. Against DOGBOTS… which (i kid you not) I am dead set on canonically being space pirates from the future. Here’s a screen cap of the crappy old model from a while ago http://i.imgur.com/7NyVh.png

Also they have similar armor tech (they don’t leave their suits though, eschewing their puny biological forms) that turns out to be derived from the prototype SUPERCAT armor.

  4. Pretty nice design! One minor thing, the mouse seems to be moving the screen a little too fast for me. A little dizzy >.< By the way, loved the title screen 😛

    1. I’ll make a note to include a slider for mouse sensitivity, since it seems to vary so much between computers in this cluster.

  5. fun, goofy, and ridiculous. good controls; except that camera; it seems super sensitive to me, and is really distracting (but others didn’t have this problem, so maybe i’m just a big baby). meow meow

  6. Very cool so far! I’m really impressed by the platforming and I love the cat + robot combo. I also discovered that you could use ctrl to throw punches, which is pretty neat. I would say make the platforming a little harder, since it seemed like I was missing jumps but still surviving at points, but you have an awesome start. The little intro was also hilarious.

  7. It is definitely getting there, I would love to see it when it is done. The cat is a bit sticky to the floor in some places and as others have said the camera is a bit fast. I also would love more oomf in the cats jump, the cat feels really heavy instead of cat like. I also am not sure why a cat is in a place like this. The character doesn’t really match the environment until it gets into the suit.
