Assignment 3 Proposal

Idea: You are inside a train passing through a dreamlike landscape. The inhabitants of the train are humans with the heads of animals, and you can talk to them, although they won’t give you any concrete information about the destination of the train or the purpose of your journey. Throughout the journey, the background outside the train will radically change through various calamities such as a storm and an explosion. The heads of the other passengers will also switch several times. On the windows are posted various documents (newspaper clippings, letters, emails, etc.) and inside the suitcases of the passengers are more documents and other miscellaneous objects. The ostensible goal of this game is to find a way off the train, but you will eventually learn that there isn’t any way out. The truth is that you have killed your wife and this train is a fantasy you have created in order to work through what you have done.

Assignment 3 Proposal: Mouse in the House

RAMBLING NONSENSE: SKIP IF YOU DON’T CARE WHAT I WAS DOING AT FOUR THIS MORNING

At first my idea was going to be something totally different where the scene is an older dude chilling out at a restaurant and he has a glass of water and among other things in the  scene you can click on to make them animate you can also click on different parts of the guy’s arm to move his muscles and try to make him take a drink of water successfully. As I was working on modeling the dude I got IMMENSELY distracted by a mouse scurrying around my bedroom (which is also the dining room) and this prompted a last minute complete change of idea as well as several unsuccesful attempts to capture the mouse which I have now named Skrillex simply because he is not a Deadmau5.

END OF NONSENSE

My idea is a scene of a living room in an apartment. The living room itself is generic, though I might base the layout off of my own apartment. Scurrying around the floor is a mouse, the rough model of which is pictured. This mouse scurries around the floor but will flee and hide under furniture if the cursor moves around over the floor area on screen.

Also in the room is an assortment of objects that can be picked up and used on other objects or simply moved around. Some objects can be combined, others will activate animations, and some will also affect the state of the room. It will be possible to capture the mouse but this wouldn’t be specified as goal. The mouse can also be removed through other various means, possibly including letting a cat into the apartment.

Assignment 3 Proposal – Star Light

The scenario is, you get to control the stars.  Rearrange them into new constellations and forms to light up the night sky.  The problem, as time passes the development of the nearby city grows.  The light pollution from the metropolis is starting to hide the beautiful star light.  Can you convince the town to change their ways or will you loose your gift to societies “progress”.

The interactions at the start would be a sandbox of stars in the night sky.  The player can move them however they want.  To progress the game they would click on the tree and watch it grow showing time passing.  As time passes the city in the distance begins to encroach on your view of the sky.  Now the goal of the game is to some how arrange the stars to prevent the city from continuing to obstruct the sky and pollute the environment.  I could see three endings as of now, 1 The city takes over, failure, 2 the constellation is so beautiful the city notices it, success, 3 a specific arrangement of stars brings in an asteroid and destroys the city, radical.  Any advice on other scenarios or game mechanics would be appreciated.

The look of the game will shift as I figure things out.  The image above is a general layout test.

Assignment 3 Proposal – Richy G the Detective

So for this assignment you play as a hobo detective named Richy Gillis and the goal of the game is to solve a crime at this scene. The environment will be pretty abstract and overall the feel of the game will be pretty monochromatic. I also like the idea of characters and objects having a line drawing quality to them as well as being transparent so that the background shows through their white spaces. I am pretty excited for this one. Any ideas or suggestions are more than welcome!

Update:

Title: Richy G and the Case of the Missing Moonshine

So I have figured out exactly what I want to happen in my game and how it will fit it to the requirements. I like the idea of choosing only 4 colors to be in my palette and that would be white for the background, black for the drawings, red for the blood and blue for the bottle of moonshine.

The setting is in an alleyway and the start of the game starts with Richy G who is a hobo who lost his bottle of moonshine and goes on a small adventure to get it back. In the screen there is a cardboard house, another hobo and a syringe. The first part of the puzzle is to click around in the right order to get the other hobo to help you out. So you click on the hobo to have him talk to you to tell him what he wants, which is his heroin. So you have to go get the syringe and he then opens up the door to the cardboard house which reveals a dead person some trash and a backpack. The splotchyness in the image i posted above would be a good example of how i want the blood to look like. The second puzzle is even more simple where you just have to click around to find the bottle of moonshine (which is in the back pack). Then it is over. Animation is going to be really simple since I am not very good at animation. When you talk to the hobo a speech bubble will appear with an image so there will be no words throughout the game. Nothing will be shaded and I really want that hand drawn feel to it and there will be a sense of movement by redrawing the same image 2 or 3 times and have it bounce between the two so it has a shaky quality to it.

As far as response to clicking, when you click on something, Richy G will walk up to it before something will happen.

Assignment 3 Proposal

So, I want to make it a photo based game in which you do something like scavenger hunt and solving the puzzles. The environment would be around the ETC.

Assignment 3: Lighthouse

A storm has caused a power outage, and the lighthouse has gone dark. Click on different things in the surrounding area to move, break, or fix them in order to light the beam and keep nearby ships safe.

Screenshot mockup: Obviously it’s missing, well, everything except the basic backdrop and lighthouse at this point, but here’s the base (click for full size):

and here’s an animation test, probably going to slow it down a fair amount though (blink/motion warning I guess?)

Assignment 3 – Martin

So I am going to continue with the sentient (sapient if you want to be technical) equation, or 4 dimensional being. To that end I want to explore a world at string level. By this I mean conceptualizing what the world looks like at the subatomic level (string theory), where micro wormholes form and die every second. If you recall my character is able to control wormholes so I am thinking this is where it would live, or spend a lot of its time. It’s a place where it could go unnoticed and still extrude into our universe constantly.

Assignment 3 Idea – Jessica

Procrastination’s A Bitch

The scenario is that you’re trying to find something, anything to do to keep yourself from finishing your homework. Because everyone loves procrastinating.

So, you click around the various items on your desk and see what happens. However, I want each reaction to be very extreme/weird. Examples:

You click on the eraser to furiously erase whatever shitty work you’ve done so far. You start erasing so quickly that the friction causes a flame to spark and now your homework is on fire. You can click on your water glass to douse the flames, or keep them burning

You click on the window to distract yourself with the outside world and see someone getting abducted by an alien.

You click on your Toast plushie to find that it has come to life and starts shredding up your papers.

Basically, everything you do will result in a hot mess. Picking up the pencil to actually do work “ends” the game.

Assignment 3 Proposal – Kyna

Majestic Autopsy

I haven’t decided really what would happen in the game. I think maybe it could be an autopsy of sorts, which would involve using different tools on different parts of the body / removing organs to figure out how the unicorn died. Or maybe it could be a dissection to figure out how the fuck unicorns work, by testing the body with chemicals/electro-stimulation/whatever. All I know is I want the scene to involve unicorn guts.
